Big or small, everyone is a giant at Little Canada. As one of Toronto's newer attractions, it's hidden in plain sight beneath the retail stores at 10 Dundas Street East, opposite Dundas Square. Walk through the first door east of Yonge Street and take the down escalator to the entrance.
It all began in 2011 when immigrant Jean-Louis Brenninkmeijer teamed up with model enthusiast Dave MacLean to begin creating a miniature world of Canadian landmarks. The project is a continuous work in progress as newer areas of the country are built by the Little Canada team.
Visitors can even miniaturize themselves to join the collection as a way to input their Lilliput à la Gulliver's Travels.
Each finely detailed scene goes through a 15-minute 24-hour sequence of lighting. It's all controlled electronically from a command centre open for viewing with a crew open to chat about what's going on.
What a great way to save time instead of having to travel across Canada, eh? On the other hand, I'd recommend you spend time doing exactly that. Think of Little Canada as an introduction.
