Belliveau Cove lighthouse is so small it’s almost unnoticeable. Almost within tossing distance from the structure we met two men who were playing a version of boules known as pétanque. This is the French-speaking region of Clare, Nova Scotia, from which the British expelled thousands of Acadian settlers in 1755. When driving through the area you will see both Acadian and Canadian flags flying in every village. Not far from the lighthouse is a small chapel celebrating the historic rebirth of the community when deportees were allowed to return in the late 1750s.
